Hey Webflailers - it’s Jack. Is your portfolio a Chinese buffet of all sorts of random work? Don't get me wrong - I love a spring roll as much as the next Jack in the queue but some of the food is hot, some of the food is cold. Or is your portfolio an Italian set menu of a three course meal where it's intentional and specific. I know where I would rather eat... If you show the work you want to get then why put random projects on your portfolio you're not proud of? Something I've been thinking a lot about recently (as I prepare to go back to freelancing - excited and pooping my pants). Today:
Let the Pacha see the mama (Pachamama is a goddess revered by the indigenous peoples of the Andes just in case you were like wtf Jack) Your calendar doesn't have to feel as hectic as a war 🚀Do you ever check your calendar in the morning and wonder why it’s suddenly full of meetings which you didn’t want to have? 5 lessons learnt on-boarding Webflow clients (that I wish I knew when I started Webflow)I was an absolute moron and got locked out my Webflail gmail account which links to my Webflow account so couldn't upload the blog. Gmail is doing this annoying thing where it thinks I'm trying to hack in to my own email and will send the recovery password reset thing in 5 days. Anyway, I wrote this beautiful article at 6am this morning but I couldn't upload it to the Webflail website so instead did a hench thread on the old tweetski which some people have said nice things about so have a gander here!
Ep 93 | 3 failures growing an 85 person agency | with Dan HardakerToday my guest is Dan Hardaker. Dan is the Director of Digital Design and co-owner at Proctor + Stevenson. P+S is one of the UK’s longest-established full-service marketing agencies, offering business-to-business marketing strategy, branding and technology. Dan is one of the longest-serving employees there having been there for 11 years and 8 months. Clients include Panasonic, Epson & South West Water. But if this agency is such a well-established and more traditional agency, you might think that they are not stuck in their ways, stuffy and less forward thinking. Far from it - this agency is quick to adopt new technology and Dan is hyper aware of available tools and tech out there. Their new website, built on Webflow, and explorations of how to use Webflow more broadly with enterprise clients are helping to push the UK Webflow market forward. We’ll get in to this more in today’s episode. You might think life has always been pretty rosy for Dan if you look at him now with a formidable team, enterprise clients and beautiful office in the heart of Bristol. But as you may have guessed, there’s been some fundamental fails to learn from to get here. The fails we’ll talk about in today’s episode are: 1) Clear Communication 2) Comprehensive Testing 3) Due Diligence in Hiring
